Sylhet BNP leader AFM Kamal killed

The former health affairs secretary of Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s Sylhet district unit, AFM Kamal was stabbed to death in the Borobazar area in Sylhet city on Sunday night.

Unidentified assailants stopped his private car and stabbed him to death about 8:30pm and he died on the spot, according to local people and police.

Sylhet Airport Police Station OC Mainul Zakir said the assailants attacked Kamal near Amberkhana Boro Bazar when he was sitting inside his private car. Suddenly the gang, riding on motorcycles, started stabbing and fled the scene.

Critically injured BNP leader was rushed to Sylhet Osmani Medical College and Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Kamal's body has been kept at the hospital morgue.

Police, however, conducted a raid and detained a Chhatra Dal leader named Raju on suspicion of involvement in the incident. He is being interrogated, and efforts are underway to find others who are involved in the killing, according to OC Mainul.

BNP also announced three-day mourning in Sylhet over the murder.
