A court in Khulna sentenced six people to death in regard to the rape case of a 6th grader in Sonadanga area of the city.
On Tuesday, Judge Abdus Chalam Khan of Khulna Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal 3 announced the verdict. Farid Ahmed, the special public prosecutor of the court confirmed this.
They have also been fined Tk 20,000 each. Besides, four others have been sentenced to eight years in prison.
The convicts sentenced to death are Morshedul Islam Shanto alias Shanto Biswas (absconder), Sheikh Shahadat Hossain (absconder), Md Rabbi Hasan Porosh, Md Mahmud Hasan Akash, Kazi Ariful Islam Pritam (absconder) and Md Mim Hossain.
The four sentenced to eight years of jail are Nurunnabi Ahmed, Moin Hossain Hridoy, Md Saurab Sheikh and Md Jihadul Kabir Dihan. Apart from this, Nurunnabi has been sentenced to additional three years imprisonment under the Pornography Act.
According to the sources mentioned in the case affidavit, on June 29, 2019, the accused raped the victim and took a video of it. The next day, the victim’s elder sister filed a case against nine accused at Sonadanga police station.
On November 13 of the same year, the investigating officer of the case, officer-in-charge of Sonadanga police station Momtazul Haque filed a charge sheet in the court mentioning the names of 10 accused.
