25,000 Joypurhat farmers to get agri incentives

The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) will distribute seeds and fertilizers free of cost as agricultural incentives among 25,770 small and marginal farmers during the current season in five upazilas of Joypurhat district.

Deputy Director of the DAE agriculturist Md Shafiqul Islam said the incentives, in terms of seeds and fertilisers, will be distributed among the beneficiary farmers to assist them in cultivating varieties of crops during the current season.

Seeds and fertilizers worth Tk 1, 83, 94,400 will be distributed among 25,770 small and marginal farmers under the agricultural incentive and rehabilitation programme in the current season with a view to increasing the production of wheat, maize, mustard, onion, lentil and mug dal, he said.

DAE sources said 5000 bighas of land for wheat, 1,350 bighas of corn, 18,800 bighas of mustard, 220 bighas of winter onions, 200 bighas of mungdal and 200 bighas land of lentil have been selected during the season.

For wheat cultivation, each farmer will get 20-kg wheat seeds, 10-kg DAP, 10-kg MOP fertilizer and for maize cultivation, 2-kg maize seed, 20-kg DAP and 10-kg MOP fertilizer will be provided each farmer and mustard cultivation each farmer will get 10- kg of DAP and 10-kg of MOP fertilizer.

Five-kg of mungdal seeds, 10-kg DAP fertilizer and 5-kg of MOP fertilizer will be given to each farmer for mungdal cultivation and 5-kg of seeds, 10-kg DAP fertilizer and 5-kg MOP fertilizer will be given to each farmer for Mushur dal cultivation.

And 10-kg DAP fertilize, 10-kg MOP fertilizer and one kg seed will be given to each farmer for cultivation of winter onion.

The seeds and fertilizer will be distributed through Upazila Agriculture Office.

The Agriculture incentive program of the government plays a special role for the marginal farmers of the district to cultivate Rabi crops in advance, said agriculturist Md Shafiqul Islam.
