Zonal managers of the Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB) were urged to maintain farmers-friendly banking for boosting the agricultural products to meet the gradually rising national food demands.

They were also given instruction related to strengthening the grassroots economy through speeding up farmers-level lending activities.

All credit programmes of the bank should be need-oriented and emphasis should be given on taking the services to the farmers’ doorsteps to achieve the aim.

RAKUB hierarchies made the directives while addressing a daylong business performance evaluation workshop for all the zonal managers and others concerned at the training institute of the bank in Rajshahi on Thursday.

Chairman of the bank’s board of directors Roisul Alam Mondal and Managing Director Zahidul Haque addressed the conference as chief and special guests respectively with General Manager Maksuda Nasrin in the chair.

General Managers Atikul Islam, Babar Ali and Shawkat Shahidul Islam and Principal of the institute Subrata Kumar Sarker also spoke.

The senior bankers laid stress on bringing all existing potential sectors and sub-sectors of agriculture and its processing under qualitative and quantitative financing for making the country’s northwest region economically vibrant.

They said that pro-farmers banking at all the branch-level activities must be ensured to achieve the desired development of the region after the best use of its existing natural resources.

Chief guest Roisul Alam urged the zonal managers to execute their duties with utmost sincerity and honesty to speed up the ongoing farmers-level lending activities.

Quality banking and lending activities could be effective towards boosting agricultural production to meet the gradually increasing food demand in the country.

He said there is no way but to make all credit programmes need-oriented and time-befitting. Emphasis should be given on taking the banking services to the farmers’ doorsteps collectively.

Roisul Mondal urged the participants to promote different innovative ideas for making the banking services more client-friendly.
