6 NGO officials held for cheating people

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained six officials of a local fake Non Government Organisation (NGO) named Progressive Star Society (PSS) on Wednesday afternoon allegedly for cheating people of Tk 6 crore.

The detainees are Md Abdus Samad, 45,(mastermind) of Sabek Labhanga village, Md Jamal Uddin, 23, (manager) of Rasiknagar village, Md Mahfuzur Rahman, 22,(accountant) of Nayalabhanga village, Md Jewel Ali, 24, (field worker) of Harinagar village, Md Golam Rasel, 25, (field worker) of Nayalabhanga Sirotola village all under Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj district and Md Alamgir Hossain, 35,(field worker) of Lalitnagar village under Godagari upazila in Rajshahi district.

RAB said, acting on detective information, an operation team of RAB-5 from Chapainawabganj camp raided the aforesaid NGO’s office at Kamlakantapur village under Nayalabhanga union of Shibganj upazila of the district at around 3 pm and apprehended them.

RAB also seized 5,000 fake passbooks, three bank cheques, seven mobile phones 12 simcards and 24 seals, the sources added.

The sources further added that getting complain from the clients of the NGO the elite force started shadow investigation and found the truth.

During the primary interrogation the detainees admitted to RAB that they used to cheat people in the name of providing high internet against their deposits.

They also used to give loans and took blank cheques from the recipients of the loans and later realise more money from their accouts using those blank cheques, the sources added.

Later the elite force handed them over to the police of Shibganj thana with a case.
