Fire rages RMG factory in Gazipur

A fire that quickly tore through the warehouse of Orbit Textile Factory in Gazipur’s Bhabanipur area on Friday morning was brought under control after nearly two hours of frantic efforts by the fire-fighters.

“The fire was ignited around 8:30am at the cotton yarn production floor of the factory. Soon after, the fire spread through the adjacent cotton godown,” Gazipur Industrial Police-2 Inspector Dulal Uddin said.

“On information, two firefighting units from Sreepur Fire Service and civil Defence Station rushed to the spot. The firefighters with the help of factory workers unit responded to the fire and tame the flames around 10:30am,” Gazipur Fire Service Deputy Assistant Director Abdullah Al Arefin said.

“Around 12.45pm, we managed to douse the fire,” he added.

“The fire started from the fabric of cotton and machine which gutted more than Tk25 crore worth of cotton and other materials,” said Factory Operation Director Shahinul Haque.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
