NGOs role significant to make dev programme successful

Development activists and social workers at a discussion termed the role of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) as very significant towards successful implementation of the uplift programmes.

They mentioned that the present government under the prudent and farsighted leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been implementing various need-based programmes for improving the living and livelihood conditions of the grassroots population, particularly for the low-income and marginalised ones.

To this end, the NGOs should supplement the government’s endeavours with their heartfelt importance.

Rajshahi district unit of Bangladesh NGO Foundation (BNF) organised the discussion at the office of the Lady’s Organisation for Social Welfare (LOFS) in the city in observance of the BNF Day-2022 on Friday.

More than 100 people from 15 NBF member organisations including LOFS, Agriculture Sustainable and Socio-Economic Development Organisation (ASSEDO) and Protibandhi Swechhasebi Sangstha took part in the programme.

On the occasion, winter clothes were distributed among 20 low-income and distressed people.

Deputy Inspector General of the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments Ariful Islam, Chief Community Development Officer of Rajshahi City Corporation Azizur Rahman and Brac Coordinator Mohsin Ali addressed the meeting as resource persons.

LOFS Executive Director Shahnaz Parveen was in the chair.

The discussants unanimously viewed there are many curses including violence against women, child marriage, child labour, dowry, gender disparity and drug addiction in society.

The concerted effort of all government and non-government organisations becomes indispensable to free society from the curses.
