Mustard growers and agricultural experts are expecting bumper mustard production in the district as the crop’s fixed farming target has been exceeded during the current Robi season.

Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) Netrakona officials said a target was set by the government to produce 7,410 tonnes of mustard from 5,700 hectares of land. But, the farmers have cultivated mustard on 7,440 hectares of land exceeding the cultivation target.

“It has been possible for the mustard cultivators to bring additional 1,740 hectares of land under the mustard cultivation against the targeted land as the government has undertaken different farmers-friendly programs, including providing agricultural incentives to the mustard growers,” deputy director of the DAE Netrakona Mohammad Nuruzzaman told BSS.

The farmers have shown their keen interest to cultivate mustard on more farmlands due to the pragmatic farmers-friendly programs of the government, he added.

“Under the agricultural incentive program, the government has so far distributed 21 metric tonnes of improved quality mustard seeds, 210 metric tonnes of MOP and 210 metric tonnes of DAP fertiliser among the 21,000 small and marginal farmers in the district” the deputy director informed.

Apart from this, the field workers and crop specialists of the DAE are rendering their field-level services to let the farmers know about the modern mustard cultivation methods by using the latest technologies for getting better yield side by side reducing the production costs, the deputy director added.
