Substantial and sustainable production of animal protein can be the crucial means of building sound public health besides boosting the number of nation-building workable manpower.
To attain the cherished goal of mitigating the existing protein deficiency, utmost emphasis should be given on promotion of the livestock sector after the best uses of modern technologies. Contribution of the sector is immense in terms of meeting up the protein demand and socio-economic development.
Veterinarian and Animal scientists and researchers came up with the observation while addressing the ‘5th Livestock Award, Seminar and Animal Resource Fair- 2022’ at Rajshahi University (RU) here on Saturday.
Veterinary and Animal Science Faculty at RU and Bangladesh Livestock Society (BLS) jointly organized the daylong programme at RU Senate Building discussing and devising ways and means on how to promote the livestock sector collectively.
Vice-chancellor Prof Golam Sabbir Sattar addressed the ceremony as chief guest, while Pro-vice-chancellors Prof Sultan-Ul-Islam and Prof Humayun Kabir spoke as special guests with Dean of the faculty and BLS President Prof Jalal Uddin Sarder in the chair. BLS General Secretary Dr Hemayetul Islam welcomed the participants.
Dr Nathu Ram Sarker, Executive Director of Krishi Gobeshona Foundation, gave an illustration on the country’s livestock sector side by side with promoting it for the greater interest of sound public health during his keynote presentation.
He presented the paper styled “Contribution of animal protein to build a middle income country” stating that the livestock sector is important from the perspectives of crop cultivation, food besides nutritional security, poverty reduction, nutrition and employment generation.
