Five killed in road crashes

At least five people were killed in separate road accidents in Gaibandha and Sirajganj on Thursday.

In Gaibandha, four people, including a couple, were kiled and another injured when a bus rammed into a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Gaibandha-Palashbari road at Sakoa Majhipara under Palashbari upazila of district Thursday morning.

The deceased were identified as Shamim Miah, 30, son of Salam Miah of Durgapur village under Sadar upazila of the district and his wife Shimu Sarker, 24, daughter of Kalam Sarker at Panchbibi area of Joypurhat district and auto-rickshaw driver Shakil Miah. The identity of the other deceased could not be known immediately.

Deputy assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defense Station Enamul Haque said the accident occurred on Gaibandha-Palashbari road around 7 am when a bus hit the CNG-run auto-rickshaw due to poor visibility caused by fog, leaving its three passengers dead on the spot and injured two others.

Inspector (investigation) of Palashbari thana Dibakor Adhikari said the bodies were sent to Sadar hospital morgue for autopsy.

In Sirajganj, a youth biker was killed when a passenger bus hit his motorbike in the Sialkole Bazar area of Sadar upazila Thursday morning. The youth was identified as Shariful Islam, 26, son of Rafiqul Islam hailed from Bethkandi village of Ullapara upazila of the district.
