A probe committee was formed on Saturday to investigate the use of condoms instead of balloons as decorations for Victory Day in Shariatpur Sadar Hospital.
The hospital authorities were criticised as the issue spread through social media. Rezaul, the nurse-in-charge of the emergency department of the institution involved in the incident, has already been relieved of his duties regarding this.
Hospital authorities have formed a three-member investigation committee to look further into the matter.
On Thursday, each department in charge was allotted money to decorate their offices for Victory Day by the supervisory body of the hospital. The main gate and the emergency ward were supposed to be decorated with balloons and flowers.
But the concerned people decorated the rooms with condoms along with a few balloons. As the photos and videos of the decorations spread through social media, the hospital authority came under scrutiny from locals.
Rezaul was absent from the hospital premises and could not be reached via mobile to comment on the matter.
Dr Suman Kumar Poddar, Resident Health Officer of Shariatpur Sadar Hospital said, “I ordered to take down the decorations immediately after learning about the incident. The alleged nurse and the agenda behind this will be investigated.”
Hospital superintendent Dr Md Sobahan said Rezaul has been relieved from his duties. However, he refused to make any further comments on this matter.
