Jashore expects bumper mustard harvest

The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) Jashore is expecting a bumper harvest of mustard in the district in the current Rabi season.

According to DAE sources, mustard has been cultivated in 24,302 hectares of land in the current Rabi season of 2022-2023 in 8 upazilas of the district. The agriculture department is expecting a bumper crop as the weather remains favourable.

The rural fields of the district are currently filled with yellow flowers of mustard. Their unique beauty attracts nature lovers of all ages. Bees are thriving in collecting honey from the flowers.

DAE sources said, among the 8 upazilas of the district mustard is cultivated on 3,557 hectares of land in Jashore Sadar, 5,820 hectares of land in Sharsha, 3,035 hectares of land in Jhikargacha, 2,750 hectares of land in Chougacha, 3,820 hectares of land in Bagherpara, 1,200 hectares of land in Abhaynagar, 2,550 hectares of land in Manirampur, and 1,570 hectares of land in Keshabpur.

District DAE Deputy Director Md Manjurul Haque said the high-yielding Tori-7 and BARI-14, 17 and 18 varieties of mustard cultivated in this district will play a role in overcoming the edible oil crisis.

“For success in mustard cultivation, the use of advanced technology along with training the farmers and a supply of high-quality seeds have been ensured. Under the guidance of the government, Bangladesh Krishi Bank and other banks have provided loans to farmers on easy terms at low-interest rates.”

He added that agriculture officials and farmers are expecting a bumper yield this year as the weather is good.
