Six people were killed after an ambulance collided head-on with a speeding truck near Padma Bridge South police station in Shariatpur’s Zajira upazila early Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as patient Jahanara Begum, 55, health worker Fazle Rabbi, 28, patient’s daughter Lutfun Nahar Lima, 30, driver Jilani, 28, helper Rabiul Islam, 26, journalist Masud Rana, 30. Highway Faridpur Circle Assitant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Md Maruf Hasan confirmed the matter around 8am.

“The accident happened around 6am when the driver of the ambulance carrying six people, coming from Madaripur’s Shibchar, lost control and hit the Dhaka-bound truck loaded with liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), leaving them dead on the spot,” said the ASP. Zajira Fire Service Station Master Enamul Haque Sumon said on information, the bodies and the ambulance were recovered. Later, the bodies were brought to Zajira Upazila Health Complex.
