Fire at oil depot in N’ganj, 6 injured

A fire broke out at Padma Oil Company depot in Narayanganj Tuesday at 9am, injuring six people.

However, the workers alongside the Siddhirganj EPZ unit of fire service brought the fire under control before it spread.

The incident took place in the pump room of the depot located in Godnail Burmastand area of the district, confirmed Siddhirganj police station sources.

The injured were identified as depot workers Golap, 29, Fazal Mia, 60, Shafiuddin, 59, Mozammel, 50, Nazmul, 25 and Siraj. The injured were taken to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

According to fire service sources, the fire started due to an electrical short circuit. In this regard, Padma Depot Godnail Branch Manager (Operation) Shahjahan Chowdhury said the workers brought the fire under control using fire extinguishers shortly after it occurred due to an electrical short circuit.

Golam Mostafa, the officer in charge of Siddhirganj police station told The Business Post that the fire did not cause any major damage.

“The injured workers are undergoing treatment, their injuries are not severe. Approximately 10/12 octane and diesel pumping motors and electric cables with an estimated value of Tk 13-15 lakhs were damaged during the incident,” he said.
