Warehouse catches fire at Mongla EPZ

A fire which broke out at the fabric warehouse-1 of VIP Industries Bangladesh Private Ltd at Mongla EPZ in Bagerhat, Khulna on Tuesday afternoon was quickly brought under control by the Mongla Port Fire Service and Civil Defence.

Workers of the warehouse were able to quickly evacuate when the fire broke out around 3:30pm, said Mahbub Ahmed Siddique, executive director of Mongla EPZ. On information, the first firefighting unit rushed to the spot within minutes. Till the filing of this report, ten units were working to douse the blaze, according to the Fire Service and Civil Defense headquarters’ media cell.

According to the initial investigation, the fire started due to an electrical short circuit, Mongla port’s fire service Senior Station Officer Arbesh Ali told The Business Post.

Mizanur Rahman, an official of VIP Industries Bangladesh Private Ltd, said there was no casualty reported in the fire incident. However, the company has suffered a significant loss of goods.
