A total of 39 physically-challenged people of Pirojpur were given free-of-cost wheelchairs to make them self-reliant by removing their mobility problems on Thursday.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Zahedur Rahman distributed the wheelchairs to the disabled people on his office premises at the initiative of district administration and the department of the district social services office this afternoon.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Monira Parveen, Deputy Director of District Social Services Office Md Iqbal Kabir, Disability Affairs Officer Priyambada Bhattacharya and former District Commander of Muktijoddha Sangsad Gautam Chowdhury, among others, were present.
The chief guest said that people with special needs should be given some additional privileges for their proper rehabilitation and family integration.
He also said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government and her daughter Saima Wazed Putul are working for the welfare of disabled people in society relentlessly.
