Woman dies in LPG leak fire in Gazipur

A police sergeant’s wife was burned to death in a fire that was caused due to a leak from an LPG cylinder at their rented flat in Gazipur on Thursday, confirmed Basan Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sarwar Jahan.

The deceased was identified as Farzana Haque Kochi, 30, wife of Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) Traffic Sergeant Shahnewaz.

According to the OC, around 11:15am neighbours heard a loud noise and noticed fire and smoke coming out of the windows of Shahnewaz’s flat. They broke the door and found the charred body of Farzana Haque Kochi lying on the floor.

Shahnewaz was out at the moment with their 4-year-old child.

“We primarily suspect leakage in the pipelines accumulated gas in the house due to all doors and windows being closed. When the deceased tried to turn the stove on it caused an explosion,” said OC Sarwar.

The body has been sent to Gazipur Shaheed Taj Uddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital morgue for post-mortem examinations.
