Ex-UP chairman shot dead in Sirajganj

Former chairman of Deshigram union parishad (UP) under Tarash upazila in Sirajganj was shot dead on Saturday.

Abdul Kuddus, who is also a local Awami League leader, was shot dead from close range, police said.

The incident happened around 7:15pm on Saturday at Bhogolman Charmatha of Deshigram union parishad.

The 50-year-old Abdul Kuddus was an inhabitant of Deshigram union. He was a former union AL president and former chairman. He got defeated contesting in the last union parishad election with ‘Boat’ symbol.

Confirming the matter, Deshigram UP chairman Gyanendra Nath Basak said Abdul Kuddus was sitting in a shop at Bhogolman Charmatha on Saturday evening. At that time, several unknown persons went there and left the place firing at him. He died at the spot.

Tarash Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Shahidul Islam said the miscreants shot at Abdul Kuddus’ chest.

Assistant Police Super (Ullapara and Tarash Circle) confirmed about the incident, saying that a police team was sent there. Necessary steps would be taken after analysing the situation.
