Trader commits suicide after failing to repay loans

A stone trader named Kamal, 40, ‘committed suicide’ by hanging himself on Wednesday after failing to repay outstanding loans in Companiganj upazila of Sylhet district, said police sources.

Being informed, police recovered the hanging body with a ceiling fan from his house at Adorshogram of Bholaganj on Wednesday afternoon. Later,

police sent the dead body to MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue.

According to sources, Kamal gave about Tk 30 lakh to a relative to import stone from India, taking loans from different persons and organisations.

But recently the lenders were putting pressure on him to repay the loan money. Being unable to bear the pressure, he committed suicide.

Companiganj police station Officer-in-Charge Hillol Roy said an investigation is underway to find out the reason of his death.
