Fire guts 14 shops in Sylhet

A fire burnt down at least 14 shops in Doyami Bazar area of Sylhet’s Osmani Nagar upazila Friday morning.

Tajpur Fire Service and Civil Defense workers brought the fire under control. No casualties were reported during the incident.

Confirming the incident Tajpur Fire Service and Civil Defense Incharge Apu Ahmed said they primarily suspect the fire spread from an electrical short circuit.

According to the traders, the losses add up to about Tk 40 lakh in total.

The blaze erupted around 8am on Friday from an electric short circuit and spread quickly. Locals noticed the flames and immediately informed the fire service. The firefighters doused the fire after an hour of effort.

Shopkeeper Bulbul Ahmed said about Tk 1.8 lakh worth of goods in his shop has been destroyed in the fire that spread from a short circuit in a neighbouring shop.
