5 killed in road accidents

At least five people were killed in road accidents in Sirajganj and Bagerhat road accidents on Monday.

Our Sirajganj correspondent reports that three people riding a motorcycle were killed in a crash with a bus on Monday on the Bonpara-Hatikumrul highway in Mannan Nagar Bazar area at Tarash upazila in Sirajganj district.

Two of the deceased were identified as Alamgir Hossain, 22, son of Barek Sarker of Belkuchi upazila; and Sujon, 21, son of Helal Uddin of Rajshahi's Puthiya upazila. The other could not be identified immediately.

All the three were the students of Natore City College.

A bus crashed their motorbike while it reached Mannan Nagar area on the Hatikumrul-Bonpara highway at 7am, leaving the three students dead on the spot said Badrul Kabir, officer-in-charge (OC) of Hatikumrul highway police station.

Police recovered the bodies and brought them to police station, the OC said. Two truck helpers were killed in a road accident on the Dhaka-Khulna highway in Chairman Bari Moor area under Fakirhat upazila of Bagerhat district in the morning.

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately. The accident occurred when a Khulna-bound speeding fish-laden truck from Gopalganj hit a parked sand-laden truck from behind in the area around 7am as its driver lost control over the steering, leaving the helpers of the two vehicles dead on the spot, said officer-in-charge (OC) of Mollahat Highway Police Station Nur Hossain.
