Six killed in road accidents

At least six people were killed in separate road accidents in Rajshahi and Patuakhali, Gopalganj road accidents on Wednesday.

In Rajshahi, two people were killed as a rickshaw van collided head-on with an auto-rickshaw at Katakhali police station of Paba upazila of the district.

The deceased were identified as rickshaw van driver Rahat Ali, 45, and passenger Rina Begum, 50. Among them, Rina Begum is a resident of Jamnagar village of Bagatipara upazila of Natore and Rahat Ali is a resident of Parila village in Paba upazila.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Katakhali police station Jahangir Alam said that Rahat and Rina Begum were coming from Belpukur by van on Wednesday morning. At that time, an auto-rickshaw from the opposite direction collided head-on with a rickshaw van when they reached the Moslem intersection, leaving both seriously injured.

Later, locals rescued them and took them to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) where duty doctors declared them dead.

However, the auto-rickshaw driver managed to flee the scene. The auto-rickshaw has been seized.

In Patuakhali, a 10-year-old named Roja was killed and 15 other passengers were injured as a bus fell into a ditch after the driver lost control in the early hours of Wednesday.

Confirming the matter, Patuakhali Sadar Police Station OC (Investigation) Asaduzzaman said all the injured including the driver and helper are admitted to the hospital. The bus has been impounded. Further legal action is being taken.

In Gopalganj, three people were killed in a road accident at Kashiani upazila of the district on Tuesday noon.

The deceased were identified as MA Hasib, 50, hailed from Faridpur, Nabir Sheikh, 22, and Abdur Rahim, 20, residents of Kashiani upazila.

Vatiapara Highway police said the accident occurred in the Pona bus stand area on the Dhaka-Khulna Highway when a bus hit a motorcycle and a bicycle.

Motorcyclist Hasib died on the spot while bicyclist Nabir Sheikh and Abdur Rahim were declared dead at Kashiani Upazila Health Complex by the on-duty doctor Hafij.
