Disaster Preparedness Day observed across country

National Disaster Preparedness Day-2023 was observed across the country including Chapainawabganj, Jamalpur, Bhola and Brahmanbaria on Friday.

Chapainawabganj District Administration and the Department of Fire Service and Civil Defence jointly organised various programmes with the theme ‘Smart Bangladesher Protaya, Durjog Prastuti Sabsomoy’ to observe the day.

To mark the day, a procession was taken out from the Deputy Commissioner’s office in the morning. After parading the main roads of the town it ended at Collectorate Green View School where a discussion was held with the Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Ahmed Mahbub-Ul-Islam in the chair.

Deputy Commissioner of Chapainawabganj AKM Galiv Khan attended it as the chief guest.

Deputy Director (LG) Debendranath Orao, District Livestock Officer Dr Mostafizur Rahman, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Rawshan Ali, Deputy Director of Fire Service and Civil Defence Saber Ali Pramanik spoke at the function as special guests.

The speakers mentioned that the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman took up various steps after the Independence to face disasters. Following his path, the present government implemented various sustainable programmes as part of its disaster preparedness.

To give people disaster warnings and regular weather messages the government has introduced 1,090 toll-free Interactive Voice Responsive which has helped develop the capacity to reduce loss of life and property from cyclones, floods, lightning and cold wave, they mentioned.

After the discussion, the firefighters exhibited their fire fighting Exercises.

In Bhola, the National Disaster Preparedness Day was observed at the initiative of the district administration with the theme ‘Smart Bangladesher Protaya, Durjog Prastuti Sabsomoy’.

On the occasion of the day, a colourful rally was brought out from the premises of the Deputy Commissioner’s office which paraded the important streets and ended up coming to the same place this morning.

After the rally, a discussion was held on the occasion of the day at the conference room of the deputy commissioner’s office this morning.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Taufiq-e-Lahi Chowdhury presided over the function.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Ripon Kumar Saha, Additional Superintendent of Police Ripon Chandra, Bhola Press Club President M Habibur Rahman, District Red Crescent Society General Secretary Azizul Islam, District Fire Service and Civil Defense Deputy Assistant Director Md. Abdur Razzak, Relief and Rehabilitation Officer SM Delwar Hossain, among others, spoke.

The speakers said the current government is much more capable of dealing with disasters. If appropriate measures are taken at the right time during the disaster, the damage can be reduced a lot.

Jamalpur Deputy Commissioner, Shrabosti Roy at a post-rally meeting in observance of the National Disaster Preparedness Day said under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Bangladesh is now a role model in the world for disaster preparedness and facing disaster.

She said we should be prepared to minimise loss during any disaster. She also emphasised consciousness against human-created disasters.

District Administration organised the meeting with Additional Deputy Commissioner (Gen), Md Moktar Hossain in the chair.

Civil Surgeon, Dr Pranoy Kanti Das, Freedom Fighter, Sujayat Ali Fakir, Assistant Director, Fire Service and Civil Defence, SM Morshed Hossain and Director, Unnoyan Sangha, Zahangir Selim spoke, among others, in the meeting.
