Four killed in Gazipur, Kushtia road crashes

At least four people were killed in separate road accidents in Gazipur and Kushtia on Sunday.

In Gazipur, two people were killed and one was injured in a head-on collision between a pick-up van carrying chicken and a sand-laden truck.

The deceased were identified as helper Jasim Molla, 32, son of Amir Molla of Ojharpara area of Gazipur metropolis and driver Ariful Islam, 20, son of Islam Uddin Molla of Faridpur village in Sreepur upazila of the district.

Contacted, Imtiazur Rahman, sub-inspector (SI) of Gazipur Metropolitan Police, said two people were killed in a head-on collision between two vehicles in the Salna area on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway earlier on Sunday.

Police recovered two bodies from the spot. An injured man was sent to the Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital in Gazipur.

In Kushtia, two people including a bank official were killed in separate road accidents on the Kushtia-Rajbari highway on Sunday, police said.

The deceased were identified as Sams Tabrej Likhan, 26, an official of a private bank and son of Bashirul Islam of Deshyali Para of Kushtia Sadar upazila and Abdur Rauf, 38.

Debbrata Roy, officer-in-charge of Kushtia Highway Police Station, said Likhan was killed in a collision between his motorbike and a three-wheeler, locally known as Nasiman, near Dabir Mollah Gate on the highway around 6am.

Likhan riding on the bike was going to Dhaka from his home to join the office there, he said, adding that the victim was also a former joint convener of Bangladesh Chattra League’s Kushtia municipality unit.

In another road accident, mason Rauf was also killed when a speeding bus hit him in front of Kushtia Medical College around 8am, the OC added.
