Lightning strike kills four in Shariatpur, Kishoreganj

At least four people were killed by lightning strikes in Shariatpur and Kishoreganj districts yesterday.

In Shariatpur’s Zajira upazila, a man identified as Sifat Molla, 21, died due to a lightning strike. Also, another child named Sura Moni, daughter of Salim Sheikh of Kachari Kandi village of the same union fell ill due to the loud noise during lightning.

Selina Akhter, the aunt of the deceased, said that Sifat was working in the field and was killed by a sudden lightning strike.

Zajira Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Kamrul Hasan Sohel confirmed the incident and said the victim’s family will receive necessary assistance as per the rules.

Meanwhile, in Bhedarganj upazila of the district, Anwara Begum, 55, of North Mahisha village, died due to lightning while taking the cows to the shed to save them from the rain.

Saudi expatriate Nadeem Munshi, 25, the son of Ratan Munshi of Nazimpur village of the same upazila died due to lightning while returning home after feeding the fish at his farm.

In Kishoreganj, a carpenter was killed by a lightning strike in Charpara Karimganj upazila in the early hours of Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Tawhid Mia, 36, son of the late Shahed Ali of the area.

Shamsul Alam Siddique, officer-in-charge (OC) of Karimganj Police Station, said a streak of thunderbolts struck Tawhid while he was working on his cropland.
