Members of the Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) of Bangladesh Police arrested five alleged online gamblers from Takipur area under the Airport Police Station in the Rajshahi metropolis Tuesday night.
The arrested are Sirajul Islam, 33, Monirul Islam, 34, Shariful Islam, 45, Abdul Hakim, 38, and Tanvir Islam, 35.
On a tip-off, the ATU team conducted raids at the area vigorously from 4 pm to 3 am and brought them to book.
ATU Deputy Commissioner Raquibul Islam said the arrested persons were cheating people, alluring them to gain money through using apps of online gambling.
They were also grabbing money from innocent people after using mobile banking and contraband e-transaction. Many youths are getting ruined after being addicted to online gambling platforms.
