Nation ready to celebrate Pahela Baishakh

All necessary preparations have been completed to welcome 'Pahela Baishakh', the first day of Bengali New Year-1430, amid traditional festivities and tight security measures in Rangpur, Khulna and Netrakona districts.

Rangpur district administration, City Corporation, educational institutions and other organisations have chalked out programmes to welcome 'Pahela Baishakh' with traditional festivities and fanfare in the city.

Official sources said the district administration will bring out a huge colourful Baishakhi procession carrying festoons, placards, banners and singing folk songs from Town Hall premises to welcome the Bengali New Year 1430 in the morning.

Business community leaders said the celebration of 'Chaitra Sankranti', the last day of the outgoing year, will begin on Thursday in hats, bazaars, groceries and important places with traditional 'Halkhata' for renewal of business accounts clearing dues.

A two-day colourful 'Folk Fair' marking the celebration of the Bengali New Year-1430 will be arranged at Town Hall premises in the city.

All museums and places with archaeological importance will remain open on April 14 and children, adolescents, students and children with special needs can enter there without tickets on the day.

Rangpur Metropolitan Police, District Police, RAB-13 and other law enforcement agencies will ensure leak-proof security during celebrations of the 'Baishakhi' programmes.

Khulna District Administration, different Socio-cultural organisations and Political parties have taken elaborate programmes to mark 'Pahela Baishakh' in Khulna city.

Meanwhile, People are thronging the city's different markets to buy Baishakhi clothes for their near and dear ones.

Khulna District Administration will begin the day with a colourful procession (Mangal Shovajatra), which will start from the Khulna Railway Station premises and will end at Khulna District Shilpakala Academy in the morning.

All educational institutions including Khulna University (KU), and Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) will celebrate colourful 'Pahela Baishakh,' programmes by their arrangement.

Sammilito Sangskritik Zote, Udichi, Students of Fine Arts Discipline of Khulna University (KU) will bring out a Mangal Shovajatra and will organise discussion meetings and cultural programmes.

Meanwhile, Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) has taken three tires security measures to celebrate the 'Pahela Baishakh', said Rakibul Islam, additional commissioner of the KMP, on Wednesday.

KMP would be deployed over 2,000 members of law enforcement agencies on the day in Khulna city for ensuring a peaceful celebration of the Bengali New Year. Plain cloth Police, Mobile Petrol team, and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) would be deployed while huge electronic devices including close circuit cameras have been set up to mark 'Pahela Baishakh'.

He also requested city dwellers including cultural organisations, and university students to not carry any bags and not to tune Vuvuzela horns during the procession.

Netrakona district administration, different socio-cultural organisations, professional groups, business organisations and educational institutions have designed different programmes to welcome the ‘Pahela Baishakh’ with traditional festivities.

As part of the programmes, a colourful Mangal Shobajatra will be brought out in the district town in the morning from the local Muktarpara ground under the auspices of the district administration.
