Newspaper hawker Khuki no more

Rajshahi’s only female newspaper hawker Dil Afroze Khuki passed away while undergoing treatment at Mother Teresa Homes in the city Thursday afternoon. She was 62.

She was known for her struggles for achieving self-reliance, living a dignified life and charitable activities.

Giving away her hard-earned income to the destitute, Khuki had chosen a life of constant battles. She was a newspaper hawker in the northern city for 30 years.

Khuki suddenly fell ill while selling newspapers in Rajshahi’s Lakshmipur area last December. A police constable admitted her to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMC) where the doctors announced she suffered a stroke. She was then under treatment at RMC’s Neuro Medicine Ward and later transferred to the home.

Rajshahi Deputy Commissioner Shamim Ahmed said the district administration will arrange her proper burial.
