Four killed in road crashes

At least four were killed and several injured in road accidents in Narayanganj and Dinajpur districts on Sunday.

In Narayanganj

Two people were killed and two were injured as a truck hit a cng-run auto-rickshaw in Fulhor area of Bandar upazila of the district.

The deceased were identified as Jahirul Islam, 42, a resident of the upazila, and Mukul, 40, from Gaibandha district.

Abu Bakar Siddiki, officer-in-charge of Bandar Police Station, said the auto-rickshaw was on the way to Madanpur area when a truck coming from the opposite direction hit it. The truck driver managed to flee the scene.

The injured were sent to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) . The dead bodies are being kept in Narayanganj District Hospital, he added.

In Dinajpur

Drivers of a bus and a pickup van were dead and 12 people were injured in a head-on collision involving the vehicles on Dinajpur-Gaibandha’s Govindapur regional road, under Birampur upazila of Dinajpur district in the morning.

The deceased are bus driver Golam Rabbani, 36, a resident of Dinajpur, and pickup van driver Md Azad of Brahmanbaria. More details about the casualties and those injured could not be known immediately.

Suman Kumar Mohanto, officer-in-charge (OC) of Birampur Police Station, said the accident occurred around 6:30 am when the Dinajpur-bound bus of Nabil Paribahan from Dhaka collided with the pickup van heading in the opposite direction in Bouttali area on the road, leaving the drivers killed on the spot and 12 passengers of the bus injured.
