Case filed against seven in Bogura Post Office employee murder case

A case has been filed against seven unidentified people over killing an office assistant of the main post office and looting Tk 8 lakh from there at Zero Point in Bogura town.

Post office inspector Md Mahidul Islam filed the case.

Sadar Police Station Officer-in-charge (OC) Nure Alam Siddiqui confirmed the filing of the case Tuesday night.

Earlier Sunday night, miscreants cut the vault of the post office and escaped after killing an office assistant named Prashant Acharya. Police recovered the body the next morning upon being informed.

The deceased Prashant Acharya was a resident of Bejora Uttarpara village in Shajahanpur, Bogura. He was employed as an office assistant in the post office. However, on the occasion of Eid, he was given the duty of guard in the post office.

According to the statement, there are two nightguards in the post office. Prashant and Abdullahel Kafi Chishti were on duty on Sunday night. However, since the day of the incident, Abdullahel Kafi has been missing.

At some point in the night, miscreants entered the post office by cutting two locks off the north side balcony. They killed Prashant by strangling him and hitting him on the head. Later they tried to cut the volt. The whole part could not be cut. They took out some money with the cut part. There were CCTV cameras in the post office. But there is no footage from the camera since 3:30 am. Because their lines were cut by miscreants. However, a masked man was found in the footage be-tween 3.30am.

Later, on Monday afternoon, in the presence of Executive Magistrate Nurul Islam, the post office authorities counted their vault money. According to the calculations of the authorities, there was Tk 43,77,018 in the volt. After the calculation, it was found that there was a deficit of Tk 8 lakh. The post office officials took the remaining money to the bank and deposit-ed it.

Mahidul Islam, the plaintiff in the case, said that Abdullahel Kafi was on duty with Prashant that night. “But we don’t know why he wasn’t at the office that night. However, I learned that he has been taken into the custody of the detective police.”
