Two people, including the prime accused, in the case filed over the recovery of 10 bodies from a fishing trawler in the coastal area of the Bay of Bengal in Cox’s Bazar were arrested on Wednesday.
On Wednesday afternoon, the senior judicial magistrate of Cox’s Bazar Sadar, Srigyan Tanchanga, granted a five-day re-mand.
The arrestees are prime accused Baitta Kamal and his associate Karim Sikdar said police. Confirming their arrest, Md Mah-fuzul Islam, superintendent of police (SP) of the district, said they arrested the two accused from Maheshkhali’s Matarbari area on Tuesday.
Rokeya Akhter, the wife of Shamsu Alam, the alleged owner of the trawler, filed a case with Cox’s Bazar Sadar Police Sta-tion Tuesday afternoon over the incident.
Cox’s Bazar SP Md Mahfuzul Islam said the bodies of six people were handed over to their relatives, while four bodies re-mained in the morgue. The identity of these four people will be confirmed through the DNA test.
A total of 10 bodies were recovered from a trawler washed ashore in Nazirartek area of Cox’s Bazar on Sunday.
