At least six people were in different road accidents in Bogura, Bagerhat and Gopalganj districts on Saturday morning and Friday evening.
A man and his son were killed when a covered van hit a motorcycle at Indail bridge area in Adamdighi upazila of Bogura around 9:30am.
The deceased were identified as Lokman Ali, 74 and his son Jahidur Rahman, 45.
Locals said, Jahidur, teacher of Admia Fajil Madrasa, was going to Adamdighi with his father on a motorcycle from his village Chatian in the upazila. When the vehicle reached Indail bridge area, a covered van of Steadfast Courier hit it, leaving Lokman dead on the spot and Jahidur injured.
Later, he was taken to Adamdighi Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.
Rezaul Karim Reza, Officer-in-charge of Adamdighi Police Station, said bodies of the deceased were recovered from the spot. Legal action is under process in this regard.
A man was killed and two others were injured in a road accident on the Khulna-Dhaka highway in Falattia Bazar area under Fakirhat upazila of Bagerhat district.
The deceased was identified as Lavlu Sheikh, 50, son of Sherazul Islam, resident of Ujalpur area of the upazila.
The accident occurred when a Dhaka-bound passenger bus of Robi Express lost control and rammed into a bicycle and a passenger van on the Khulna-Dhaka highway in Falattia Bazar area around 7am. The van passenger died on the spot and the van driver and bicycle rider were injured, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mollahat Highway Police Station Md Mahedi Hasan said.
The injured were taken to Khulna Medical College and Hospital.
Police recovered the body from the spot. Police seized the bus, but its driver and helper managed to flee away. A case was filed in this connection, the OC added.
Three people were killed as a bus hit a three wheeler (nosimon) on the Dhaka-Khulna highway at Sadar upazila in Gopalganj district on Friday evening.
The accident took place Sonashur area of the upazila at around 7.00 pm.
The deceased were identified as Dinesh Adhikaree, 55, Sanjay Bairagi, 35, and Mihir Bairagi, 34,-- all are residents of Andarkota village of the upazila. They all were vegetables trader of Tala Bazaar.
Quoting locals, Kashiani Bhatiapara Highway Police inspector (OC) Md Shariful Islam said a speeding Dhaka-bound Falguni Paribahan bus from Khulna hit their three wheeler from the opposite direction when they were returning home after finishing their work on the market riding on the vehicle, leaving Dinseh dead on the spot and three others critically injured.
Being informed, Fire Service and Civil Defence personnel rescued the injured and sent them to Gopalganj General Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared the duo dead.
Legal steps are under process in this regard, the official added.
