3 killed in Jhenaidah road crash

Three people were killed and five others injured in a head-on collision between a pickup van and a battery-run van in Jhenaidah on Thursday.

The accident took place on Kaliganj-Kotchandpur road at Elangi area in front of Kashipur Municipality College in Kotchandpur upazila around 12pm.

The deceased were identified as Rafan Islam, 41-day-old son of Robiul Islam, his niece Khuku Moni, 5 and the battery-run van driver Soleman Hossain.

Rafan’s mother Rabia Khatun and grand-mother Sheuli Begum are among the injured. They were taken to Jashore Hospital.

Anjali Khatun, relative of the deceased, said Rafan’s mother and grand-mother were going to Kotchandpur for a doctor’s appointment for him by the battery-run van. When the van reached at Kashipur College intersection, the pickup collided head-on with it, leaving three dead on the spot.
