Indian police hands over Bangladeshi’s body in Sherpur

Indian police on Thursday handed over the body of a Bangladeshi, who succumbed to his injuries in a hospital on Wednesday after being beat by Indians.

The deceased was identified as Monir Hossain, 43, a resident of Sreebardi upazila of Sherpur district.

According to sources, the victim went out from his house on May 1 and was missing till then. Family members of the victim lodged a GD with Sreebardi Police Station in this connection after searching.

A flag meeting was held between members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at boundary pillar no 1116 on Thursday afternoon.

It was informed in the meeting that Monir Hossain entered into India through the border 12 midnight on Monday. Some Indian people caught him at that time and beat him mercilessly.

Being informed, members of Dhalu Police Station, Meghalaya rescued Monir Hossain and admitted him to Tura District Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.

Indian police handed over the body to Bangladesh police after the meeting.

The victim’s brother Majidul Islam was present at that time.

Sherpur ASP Saidur Rahman, ASP Raihan Yeasmin, Nalitabari Police Station OC Emdadul Haque, Sreebardi Police Station OC Biplab Kumar Biswas, Mymensingh BGB-39 Battalion Hatipagar Camp commander naib subedar Obaidur Rahman, Dhalu Police Station OC Deenbandhu Barman and BSF officials were present at the meeting.
