Derailment halts Sirajganj-Dhaka rail service

Rail communication of Dhaka with northern and southern districts of the country has remained halted as a freight train derailed in Sirajganj.

Two wagons of a freight train veered off the tracks near Ullapara railway station around 2pm on Friday, snapping train services between Dhaka and Northern and Southern regions.

According to the railway station, the freight train was moving towards Ullapara station from Ishwardi on Friday morning. Two compartments of the train derailed around 2pm while it was changing lines to unload the consignments.

Deputy assistant engineer of Sirajganj Railway Ahsanur Rahman said a rescue train has already made its way to Ullapara from Ishwardi. It would be reached soon and resolved the problem.

As of writing the report at 5pm, train movement remained snapped between the districts as no rescue train reached the station.
