DGF sets paddy procurement target in Gopalganj

The Directorate General of Food (DGF) has set a target of procuring 19,448 tonnes of paddy, rice and wheat in six food warehouses of five upazilas in Gopalganj district.

Among them, the target of paddy collection is 4,788 tonnes, clean rice is 13,206 tonnes and wheat is 1,454 tonnes. The government has fixed the procurement price of paddy at Tk 30, rice at Tk 44 and wheat at Tk 35 per kg.

DGF has fixed the collection period of paddy, rice and wheat from May 7 to August 31.

According to Gopalganj District Food Controller Office, out of 13,206 tonnes of rice in the district, 4,082 tonnes of rice from eight rice mills of Gopalganj Sadar upazila, 6,261 tonnes of rice from 10 rice mills of Muksudpur, one rice mill of Tungipara upazila 1,977 tonnes of rice, 613 tonnes of rice from seven rice mills of Kotalipara upazila and 273 tonnes of rice from 13 rice mills of Kashiani upazila will be procured.

Gopalganj District Food Controller Suprakash Chakma said, “We have already started the paddy, rice and wheat procurement campaign in Gopalganj district. 13,206 tonnes of rice is being collected from 39 contracted rice mills in the district.” He added that it will be possible to meet the rice collection target before August 31. They are purchasing 4,788 tonnes of paddy directly from the farmers at the rate of Tk 30 per kg. Besides, they are buying 1,454 tonnes of wheat at the rate of Tk 35 per kg.
