The World Environment Day-2023 was observed across the country on Monday in a befitting manner.

This year, the day is hosted by C”te d’Ivoire (West African country) and the theme of this year’s Environment Day is Solution to plastic pollution.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina called upon people to plant trees to protect Bangladesh from the adverse impacts of climate changes.

Marking the day, elaborate programmes, including a colorful rally, painting competitions for children on environment, distribution of saplings, tree plantation, distribution of prizes and cultural functions, were chalked out by district administrations across the country.

In Rangpur, the district administration and the Department of Environment (DoE) jointly organised the discussion in observance of the World Environmental Day- 2023 with the theme ‘Solutions to Plastic Pollution’.

Earlier, Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Md. Abu Jafar led the rally with the participation of officials, students, teachers, politicians, professionals, civil society members, community leaders and elite on the city streets.

Later, Divisional Commissioner Md. Habibur Rahman attended the discussion as chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Dr. Chitralekha Nazneen in the chair.

Addressing on the occasion, Syed Farhad Hossain discussed on the ongoing environmental degradation and pollution being caused by climate change due to global warming and unbridled use of plastic goods and polythene.

In Chattogram, the Directorate of Environment (DoE), Chattogram observed the day with various programmes.

In observance of the day, the DoE held a discussion meeting at Shilphokala Academy auditorium in the afternoon.

DoE (Metro) Director Hillol Biswas presided over the meeting while Divisional Commissioner of Chattogram Dr Mohammad Aminur Rahman attended the meeting as the chief guest.

In Bhola, marking the day, a colorful rally was brought out from the premises of deputy commissioner’s office in Bhola which paraded the important streets and ended at the conference room of the deputy commissioner’s office in the morning.
