A court in Magura on Tuesday sentenced three people to death in a case filed over killing farmer Saheb Ali in Shalikha upazila of the district in 2002.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Court Judge Farzana Yasmin pronounced the verdict in the afternoon.
The death convicts are - Abdus Sabur, son of Samshuddin Mandal, resident of Courtvag village of Shalikha upazila, Habibur Rahman, son of Gahar Munsi, resident of the same village, Bulu Miah, son of Emanuddin of the same village.
According to the details of the case, in the morning of March 8, 2002, Sahib Ali and his father Amjad Ali were going to their own crop fields in Kotbhag village for agricultural work. On the way, when they reached the local primary school ground area, accused Abdus Sabur, Habibur Rahman, Bulu Miah and others stopped their movement. Saheb Ali was brutally killed with a rod and a sharp weapon and blade.
Saheb Ali’s father Amjad Ali filed a case with Shalikha police station accusing 36 people including Abdus Sabur.
Later, police submitted a charge sheet against the accused in this case.
After examining the record and witnesses, the court found three of them guilty, 32 accused have been acquitted. One of the accused named Zakir Hussain has already died.
Additional public prosecutor (APP) Advocate Moshiar Rahman confirmed the matter.
