Boro harvesting near completion in Narsingdi

Harvesting of Boro paddy that started on the first week of May is near completion in all six upazilas of Narsingdi district.

Concerned experts, officials and farmers are expecting a bumper production of paddy as the crop has grown excellently under favourable climate conditions everywhere in the district this year.

The enthusiastic farmers are now busy harvesting their cash crops. They hope that the prevailing climate condition would help them for harvesting the bumper Boro yields this year.

Narsingdi’s Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) Deputy Director Mohammad Mahabubur Rashid said they have set a target of producing 2,15,000 tonnes of Boro rice from 55,300 hectares of land. But production of Boro rice might cross the target as the farmers cultivated 55,350 hectares of land in the district.

Besides the Boro plants grew under favourable climate conditions and no major incidents of pest attacks in the district. If there is no climate hazard, over 2,25,000 tonnes of Boro rice are expected to be produced in the district this year.

He said the DAE provided the farmers with logistic support including seeds and fertilisers and necessary equipment.

Farmers Abdur Rahman and Haripad Das of Sadar upazila, and Abdul Ali and Brijan Roy of Shibpur upazila said they have almost completed harvesting their Boro paddy and getting excellent production. They added that the harvest will be completed within this month.
