8 killed in road crashes

Eight people were killed and several others injured in separate road accidents in Rajbari, Lalmonirhat, Gazipur and Natore districts on Sunday.

In Rajbari, a woman identified as Lutfun Nahar, 40, was killed after being hit by a car in Kalyanpur area of Rajbari-Faridpur road early Sunday morning, Ahladipur Highway Police Station OC Md Tariqul Islam confirmed.

She died on the spot. Later, Ahladipur Highway police station recovered the body and sent it to Rajbari morgue for post-mortem.

In a separate incident, a motorcyclist named Mehdi Hasan, 22 was injured when his vehicle collided head-on with a Nosimon in Islampur union of Baliakandi Upazila around 7pm on Saturday.

He was rescued and brought to Rajbari Sadar Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

In Lalmonirhat, two friends died and another sustained injuries after being hit by a truck while they were “making TikTok videos” on Kakina-Mahipur road in Kaliganj upazila.

Wazed Ali, 18, son of Sahidul Miah, and Shah Alam, 17, son of Azir Ali, were from Rudreshar village under Kakina union of Kaliganj upazila. The identity of the injured could not be known immediately.

Police and locals said the three friends — on a motorbike — were making videos on the Gangachara Sheikh Hasina Teesta Bridge around 11pm.

In Gazipur two people were killed and another was injured as a truck ran over an auto-rickshaw on Mawna-Kaliakair road in Kaliakair upazila of Gazipur early Sunday, confirmed Sohel Rana, the in-charge of Phulbaria police outpost.

The identities of the deceased, passengers of the three-wheeler, could not be known immediately.

The accident occurred around 6 am when the Phulbaria-bound truck ran over the auto-rickshaw in Phulbaria Bazar area, leaving the duo dead on the spot.

In Natore, a motorcyclist and his wife were killed as a train hit their vehicle on Dodangi level crossing in Lokmanpur area of Bagatipara upazila on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Mofijul Islam, 45, and his wife Sabina Begum, 40, of Jamnagar village in the upazila.

Ziauddin, assistant station master of Abdulpur railway station, said Mofijul along with his wife were returning from his father-in-law’s house at Maria village.

The Rajshahi-bound Tungipara Express train hit the motorcycle on the Dodangi level crossing around 1:30 pm when they were trying to cross the rail tracks, leaving them dead on the spot, he added.
