Death toll from Narayanganj oil tanker blast rises to four

The death toll from an oil tanker blast in Narayanganj’s Shitalakkhya River last week rose to four as another injured victim died on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Md Sohel, 38, son of the late Taijul Islam of Brahmanbaria’s Nabinagar upazila.

He succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in the morning.

Md Tariqul Islam, the resident surgeon of the hospital, said Sohel suffered 45 per cent burns.

Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost Inspector Bachchu Mia said the body has been kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy.

Eight people were injured in the oil tanker explosion in the Shitalakkhya River at Narayanganj’s Rupganj on June 4.

Five of them suffered serious burn wounds and were admitted to Dhaka’s Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Among them, three workers – Tajul Islam Lyon, 22 and Humayun Kabir, 54 and Md Rubel, 38 -- died from their burn injuries.

Meanwhile, one employee is still receiving treatment at the institute, the resident surgeon added.
