University student stabbed to death in Sylhet

A university student was stabbed to death at Bangaon village in Balaganj upazila of Sylhet on Monday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Atikur Rahman, 25, son of Ekhlachur Rahman of Bongaon village of Dewabazar union of Balaganj upazila and was a second-year CSE student of North East University in Sylhet.

According to the police and the family of the deceased, Atikur Rahman lives in Sylhet. On Monday morning he had an interview for a teaching position in an English medium school and went home in the afternoon. Later some young men stabbed him near the Madrasah in front of the house.

Locals rescued him in an injured condition and brought him to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital at around 6 pm, where the doctor on duty declared Atikur dead.

Ramaprasad Chakraborty, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Balaganj Police Station, said that the incident was reported to have occurred due to a previous dispute with the neighbour of the house. Two people have already been detained.

“We have continued the operation to detain the other people involved in the incident,” the OC added.
