3 examinees killed in road crashes

One Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and two Dakhil examinees were killed in separate road crashes in Panchagarh and Tangail on Saturday.

In Panchagarh an SSC examinee was killed in a road crash at Debiganj upazila on his way to the exam hall.

The deceased was identified as Sabirul Islam Sagar, 16, a student of Kalurhat KC High School and son of Mojibul Islam from Khochabari Kalicharan village in the upazila.

Sagar was on his way to attend the Bengali second paper exam at MP Girls High School centre at Kaliganj Saturday morning by an auto-rickshaw.

Near Matiapara area on Dhangirhat-Kaliganj road the auto-rickshaw overturned while saving a goat on the road, leaving Sagar severely injured, said Jamal Uddin, Officer-in-Charge of Debiganj police station.

He was declared dead by the doctors when taken to the upazila health complex, said the OC. Debiganj Upazila Health Complex’s emergency department doctor Dr Afia Farzan said the SSC candidate died due to excessive bleeding.

In Tangail, two candidates for the Dakhil examination were killed and another was injured in a road accident in Egarkahnia village in Ghatail upazila of the district Saturday night.

The deceased were identified as Naeem Khan, 17, son of Fazlur Rahman Khan and Shakil Khan, 15, son of Abdus Sattar Khan, both residents of Egarkahnia village of the upazila.

Both of them participated in the Dakhil exam this year from Mulbari Darus Sunnah Dakhil Madrasah.

The accident occurred when the three friends were going to the local Chankhola market on a motorcycle at night and collision with a battery-powered auto van coming from the opposite direction in the area, leaving the trio seriously injured, officer-in-charge (OC) of Ghatail Police Station Azharul Islam said.

Later, the injured were first admitted to Ghatail Upazila Health Complex but later shifted to other hospitals as their condition deteriorated.

However, Shakil succumbed to his injuries around 1am on the way to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital and Naeem on the way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, the OC added.

One killed in Satkhira road crash

A 50-year-old man was killed and seven others were injured when a speeding bus overturned on the Khulna-Paikgachcha highway in Satkhira on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Ali Sardar, son of Sermat Ali Sardar of Patkelghata upazila.

The accident occurred in the Shahapur area of Tala upazila around 8am when the driver of the Paikgachcha-bound bus lost control of the vehicle, leaving one passenger dead on the spot, said Abu Zihad Fakhrul, officer-in-charge of Tala Police Station.

The injured were rushed to Tala Upazila Health Complex.
