Renowned industrialist and founder and chairman of Anwer Group Alhaj Anwer Hossain died due to old age complexity at the Labaid hospital in Dhaka.
He breathed his last at 10:00pm on Tuesday. He was 83.
FBCCI President Md Jashim Uddin confirmed the death of its former governing body member Anwer. Anwer was also the Chairman of the DCCI Foundation for a long time.
The namaz-e-janaza (funeral prayer) of Anwer Hossain will be held at 10:30am on Thursday at Baitul Aman mosque in Dhanmondi No. 7, reads a press release issued Wednesday.
He was the founder chairman of Anwar Group of Industries, The City Bank Limited, Bangladesh Finance and Investment Company Ltd and founder director of City General Insurance Company Limited.
The heritage of Anwar Group of industries saw its beginnings with Anwer Hossain's grandfather Lakku Mia in 1834. The industrial foundation stretches back almost nine decades, when Late Rahim Buksh, Anwar's father, set up an ivory button and comb manufacturing plant in Dhaka.
Anwar group set up and began the operation of a silk textile unit in the early sixties. Since then, the Group has come a long way towards diversifying its operations into seven major industrial and business sectors, as it quickly grew up to become an important contributor to Bangladesh’s economy.
Mala Sarees and Manwar Cutleries are two of the products among others that brought the Group major success and both domestic and international brand recognition.
Anwar Group, is the first electrical cable, polyester fabrics, PTFE tape, Upvc fittings, and super enamel copper wire manufacturer in the country. It was also the promoter of the first private sector commercial bank of Bangladesh.
