A recent study has unveiled that 1,496 people who were tested for Covid-19 died with coronavirus symptoms in the last four weeks till August 3.
The study was conducted by the Centre for Genocide Studies of Dhaka University in association with Bangladesh Peace Observatory, a UNDP-funded research facility. The findings of the study were unveiled on Sunday.
The study was conducted on the basis of newspaper reports of deaths with Covid-like symptoms.
According to the study, the reported deaths were from July 7 to August 3 while another 468 died from June 23 to July 7 with similar symptoms.
Of the total deaths, the highest was 1,058 in Rajshahi, 970 in Khulna, 772 in Chattogram, 593 in Dhaka, 501 in Barishal, 338 in Mymensingh, 103 in Sylhet and 100 in Rangpur division.
It said that deaths with Covid-19 symptoms have increased sharply from July 7 to August 3.
Bangladesh officially announced the outbreak of Covid-19 on March 8, 2020, and recorded the first death on March 18, 2020.
