At least one person died in a fire that broke out on the fifth floor of a building in Dhaka's Khilgaon area on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Abdul Hai Jamali Bipu, 45. The victim's brother, Abu Sayeed Shohag said that Bipu was mentally disabled.
The fire broke out at around 7:56pm, in a room on the building's rooftop. Two units from the Fire Service and Civil Defence managed to douse the blaze at 8:12pm.
Fire service officials suspect the fire may have started from a cigarette.
Around Tk1 lakh worth of goods were gutted in the fire, while the fire service officials also managed to recover goods worth Tk20 lakh.
