A ten-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is currently being set up at Chattogram General Hospital to treat COVID-19 patients.
The unit, comprising a total of 18 ventilators, is set to start functioning from Monday (April 20) onwards with 10 new ventilators and 8 old ones. These 8 old unused ventilators were locked in a room for a several years due to legal complications.
Chattogram Civil Surgeon Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi said necessary measures were taken by the government to install 10 ventilators to face the crisis.
ICU beds have also been kept ready at Parkview and Imperial Hospital, two privately owned hospitals in Chattogram, he added.
Dr Asim Kumar Nath, superintendent of Chattogram General Hospital, said all the necessary equipments including 10 ventilators, 10 ICU beds, 10 monitors have already arrived and they now need to install these equipment at designated units.
