A consignment of 10 lakh doses of Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine has arrived in Dhaka.
A special flight carrying the doses landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 5:30pm on Wednesday.
The consignment is a gift from the United States.
Health Secretary Lokman Hosen Mia and the US Ambassador to Bangladesh Earl R Miller received the consignment at the airport, confirmed, Maidul Islam, public relations officer of the health ministry.
Another 50 lakh doses of Pfizer vaccine will arrive in phases by this month, ministry sources said.
On May 27, the Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) approved emergency use of Pfizer mRNA Covid-19 vaccine in the country.
Bangladesh has so far approved Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, CoronaVac, Pfizer, Covishield, Sputnik V, AstraZeneca and Sinopharm vaccines.
