Over 100 per cent of the target of cultivating Ropa Aman paddy has been achieved in the Khulna agriculture region this season, an official said on Sunday.

The DAE fixed a plantation target of 2,97,293 hectares of land with a production target of 12,56,127 metric tons of paddy and 8,37,418 tonnes of clean rice in Khulna, Bagerhat, Satkhira, and Narail in the region, said Mohon Kumar Ghosh, additional director of Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) in Khulna region to BSS.

The government has already given over Tk 2.33 crore to 33,600 farmers as incentives with a view to increasing the production of Ropa Amon.

In the Khulna agricultural zone, the average yield is fixed at 4.23 tonnes of Ropa Aman paddy and 2.82 tonnes of clean rice.

"Farmers have cultivated Aman rice on 2,99,429 hectares of land, which exceeds by 2,136 hectares of land or 100.7 per cent against the fixed farming target," he said.

In the Khulna district, 94,790 hectares of land have been cultivated against the farming target of 93,185 hectares with a production target of 4,13,539.5 tonnes of paddy and 2,75,693 tonnes of clean rice.

In the Bagerhat district, 73,186 hectares of land has been cultivated against the farming target of 73,096 hectares of land with a production target of 2,74,432.5 tonnes of paddy and 1,82,955 tonnes of clean rice.

In the Satkhira district, 88,768 hectares of land have been cultivated against the farming target of 88,750 hectares with a production target of 3,78,885 tonnes of paddy and 2,52,590 tonnes of clean rice.

In the Narail district, 42,685 hectares of land have been cultivated against the farming target of 42,262 hectares of land with a production target of 1,89,270 tonnes of paddy and 1,26,180 tonnes of clean rice.

He said the government has given incentives to the farmers. They are enthusiastically farming the fallow land, and as such bumper yield and production have also improved. Fertilisers are used in a balanced way.

Due to favorable weather and proper monitoring, cultivation of fallow land led to bumper production, he added.
