The government has approved more than 100 special flights from Saturday in five key labor markets countries to return the expatriate workers who stuck in the flight ban.

The decision was taken at an inter-ministerial meeting on Thursday evening, the Civil Aviation Authority’s (CAAB) Chairman Air Vice Marshal M Mafidur Rahman confirmed to The Business Post on night.

He said, “More than 100 special flights to Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Qatar and Singapore has been approved since Saturday, keeping in mind the issue of expatriate workers. They will be able to join their workplaces on these flights.”

“They also informed to the concerned embassy that if any Bangladeshi is stuck in these countries, and if they want to return to the country, they can return by fulfilling certain conditions. However, in this case, they have to have a COVID-19 negative certificate and have to abide by the condition of being in the institutional quarantine for 14 days after returning to the country,” he added.

Earlier, the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh has suspended all international flights to and from Bangladesh for a week from April 14, the first day of the upcoming lockdown in the context of a second wave of COVID-19 pandemic.

Due to the weeklong ban, around 20,000 to 25,000 Bangladeshi migrant workers regarding going to their workplaces in different countries was put in uncertainty.
